PML (N) are said to be in agreement with JUI (F) to reveal Akram Khan Durrani as Federal Minister for Housing and Works. A reliable source in PML Nawaz, now federal state minister, told The Spokesman that concerns were addressed between JUI (F) and PML (N). Mian Nawaz Sharif consented to grant Federal Minister for Housing and Works portfolio to one of JUI (F) nominees, which is likely to be Akram Khan Durrani, a former Chief Minister KPK, he said.
Earlier party chief JUI (F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman was insisting for his party to get the chairmanship of the Kashmir Committee of parliament and the ministries of Religious Affairs and Housing and Works. Maulana also demanded the portfolio of senior minister in the Balochistan government and governorship of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa. However, it was finally decided by the PML (N) leadership that only one Ministry shall be granted to JUI (F) apart from Chairmanship of Kashmir Committee and Council for Islamic Ideology.
The JUI-F parliamentarian from Balochistan, Rehmatullah Khan Kakar, was enjoying the post Minister for Housing and Works portfolio in the previous government and was allegedly implicated in dishonesty in allotment of government accommodations. He was also held responsible in a mega scam in Housing and Works Ministry which involved 1.95 billion rupees corruption in Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF). Ex-Minister of Housing and Works Faisal Saleh Hayat had filed an application with the Supreme Court pointing out that during the tenure of former Federal Minister Rehmat ullah Kakar FGEHF purchased 3,000 kanals of land at the rate of Rs 950,000 per kanal in Bhara Kahu, Islamabad. The application stated that the present rate of land was Rs 40,000 to 400,000 per kanal and it appeared that corruption was done in the project during the tenure of GM Sikandar as Federal Secretary of Ministry of Housing and Works and Sher Afzal as FGEHF Director General. The corruption case was deliberately laid down by last government.
Pakistan Muslim League (N) MNA Usman Ibrahim took oath as Minister for State for Housing and Works and Federal Minister portfolio being given to JUI (F) who are likely to nominate Akram Khan Durrani as Federal Minister. It is feared that old stories of mega corruption can also be repeated in this term.
